New stake presidencies

Seven new stakes were created in Lima Peru during the weekend of Jan. 30-31, making a total of 18 in that city. (See Feb. 6 Church News.)

Elder M. Russell Ballard of the Council of the Twelve officiated in the creation of the new stakes.Below is biographical information on new members of stake presidencies in the new and existing stakes in Lima.

New stakes

LIMA PERU CHORRILLOS STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru San Juan and Lima Peru Limatambo stakes. President - Israel Antonio Gonzales, 32, zone supervisor of operations and maintenance for the Church, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop's counselor, and ward Young Men president. Counselors-Jose Hugo Bazan, 33, mental health worker in military hospital, former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop's counselor, and ward mission leader; Cesar Miguel Santibanez, 40, Peru Civil Guard official, former high councilor, district president, branch president, and bishop's counselor.

LIMA PERU COMAS STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru Lamanita and Lima Peru San Felipoe stakes. President - Grover Pinto, 40, accountant, former stake president's counselor, mission president's counselor, high councilor, and branch president. Counselors - Javier Aedo, 35, technical draftsman, former high councilor, bishop, stake Young Men president and counselor; Huilder Quiroz, 30, former high councilor, stake Young Men president, and branch president.

LIMA PERU LAS FLORES STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru Central Stake. President - Miguel Fernando Rojas, 32, treasurer in Church offices in Peru, former Lima Central stake president, bishop, and branch president. Counselors - Cesar Diaz, 59, former stake president's counselor and bishop; Javier Elias Riofano, 31, jewelry store employee, former institute of religion teacher, Sunday School teacher, and bishop.

LIMA PERU MARANGA STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru Callao and Lima Peru Magdalena stakes. President - Santiago Pacheco, 47, airport customs supervisor, former Callao stake president, bishop and counselor. Counselors - Marcos Merquiades Paredes, 42, architect, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake executive secretary, and bishop; Juan Francisco Castellano, 42, fishing boat repairman, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and high priests group leader.

LIMA PERU EL OVIVAR STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru Callao, Lima Peru San Martin, and Lima Peru Palao stakes. President - Antero Miguel Sanchez, 47, electrician, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop, and ward Sunday School president. Counselors - Jaime Arnaldo Young, 38, accountant in Church offices in Peru, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor; Oscar Carrion, 25, business manager for distribution company, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, branch president's counselor, and ward Young Men president.

LIMA PERU LAS PALMERAS STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru Lamanita and Lima Peru San Felipe stakes. President - Albino Isidro Chagua, 39, regional coordinator for Church Educational System, former high councilor, branch president and counselor, and ward Young Men president, Counselors - Santiago Quiroz, 53, police officer, former high councilor, branch president, elders quorum president, and ward Young Men president; Lino Andres Clemente, 33, construction cost analyst for CChurch, former bishop and counselor, branch president's counselor,, and ward Sunday School president.

LIMA PERU VITARTE STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) Created by division of the Lima Peru San Luis Stake. President - Luis E. Stiglich, 38, real estate manager for South America North Area of the Church, former stake president's counselor, bishop, branch president and counselor. Counselors - Carlos A. Uceda, 31, stake Young Men president, bishop and counselor; Walter Hugo Advincula, 38, real estate agent, former branch president and counselor, and elders quorum president.

LIMA PERU CALLAO STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Pablo Jesus Luna, 44, electro-mechanical assistant at Lima Peru Temple, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, elders quorum president, and ward mission leader. Counselors - Felix Tinoco, 51, ports facilities administrator, bishop's counselor, ward executive secretary, and ward Young Men president; Jose Frederico Villanueva, 33, maintenance technician and custodian supervisor for the Church, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, ward executive secretary, and ward Sunday School president's counselor.

LIMA PERU CENTRAL STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Carlos Alfredo Cuba, 40, purchasing supervisor for the Church, former stake president's counselor, bishop, elders quorum president and counselor. Counselors - Adrian Romero, 36, technical assessor in operations and maintenance for the Church, former bishop and counselor, seminary teacher, and ward Young Men president; Hildebrando Zavaleta, 43, education professor, former bishop, branch president, institute of religion teacher, and Sunday School teacher.

LIMA PERU LAMANITA STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) President - Pedro Reyes, 55, police officer, former stake president's counselor, high councilor, branch president, and elders quorum president. Counselors - Leon Rojas Teofilo, 50, military college professor, former high councilor, bishop and counselor; Juan Maurilo Leon, 57, bank training director, former bishop, branch president and counselor, elders quorum president, and Sunday School teacher.

LIMA PERU PALAO STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Vidal Francisco Chinchay, 35, electrical engineer for the Church, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, and elders quorum president. Counselors - Santiago Capunay, 53, director of artisan shop, former bishop and ward mission leader; Ricardo Miguel Levano, 32, student, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, ward executive secretary, and mission leader.

LIMA PERU SAN FELIPE STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) President - Mauro Artica, retained. Counselors - David Isaac Figueroa, retained; Gerardo Villar, 27, legal assistant, former high councilor, branch president, and stake mission president.

LIMA PERU SAN JUAN STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Raul Cardenas, 40, salesman, former mission executive secretary, bishop and counselor, and ward mission leader. Counselors - Urbano Olivos, 44, owner of metal mechanics business, former bishop, ward Young Men president, and ward Sunday School president; Luis Alfredo Ibarra, 45, auditor director in government office, former bishop and counselor, ward financial clerk, and ward Young Men president.

LIMA PERU SAN LUIS STAKE: (Jan. 30, 1988) President - Rodolfo M. Casos, retained. Counselors - Martin David Openshaw, retained; Juan Eusibio Del Carpio, 49, merchant, former high councilor, mission president's counselor, and elders quorum president.

LIMA PERU SAN MARTIN STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Hermes Agustine Paredes, 32, bank officer, former bishop and counselor, branch president, and branch Young Men president. Counselors - Luis Alberto Sanchez, 56, salesman, former high councilor, stake executive secretary, and bishop; Fidel Oyolo, 45, former high councilor, bishop, branch president, and mission leader.

LIMA PERU VILLA MARIA STAKE: (Jan. 31, 1988) President - Hilario Antenor Lastra, 50, education professor, former bishop and elders quorum instructor.
