Polynesian Cultural Center presents 'living sea' film

The Polynesian Cultural Center has introduced a new IMAX film, "The Living Sea," which celebrates the world ocean - its beauty, diversity and importance to life on earth. "The Living Sea," which had its world premiere in February of this year, is available in Hawaii, exclusively at the center.

Featuring music by Grammy-winning artist, Sting, and narration by actress Meryl Streep, this 40-minute motion picture is presented on the center's giant IMAX screen. The film takes viewers on a journey of discovery to learn how the world ocean waters are linked by currents, tides and water cycles. Audiences feel the power of the ocean as they surf thundering waves in Hawaii, track humpback whales in the open ocean, ride in a Coast Guard rescue boat and take a guided tour through Palau and its giant clam farms and Jellyfish Lake. The filming of "The Living Sea" represents the realization of a long-time dream for director Greg MacGillivray, a veteran director who began his film career making award-winning surfing films more than 25 years ago. Renowned oceanographer and deep-ocean explorer Dr. Robert D. Ballard served as academic adviser to "The Living Sea" production team.

"The Living Sea" is in addition to the center's current IMAX presentation, "Polynesian Odyssey," which takes viewers through more than 5,000 years of Polynesian history. This presentation will alternate with "The Living Sea," giving visitors to the center the option of seeing either presentation or both.

Hawaii's most popular paid-admission visitor attraction since 1977, the center has hosted more than 24 million guests since opening in 1963.
