With red, white and blue bunting draped above its golden organ pipes and across its dark wood rostrum, the Tabernacle was for the second time the site of a celebration of Utah's statehood. And the second celebration, held at the state's centennial, in some ways replicated the first as actors portrayed participants of the original celebration.
Among the speakers at the event were President Gordon B. Hinckley and Utah Gov. Michael O. Leavitt. The last part of the celebration was strictly contemporary as it concluded with a patriotic laser light show. Stories and photos of the celebration of statehood are on pages 3-9.
