Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. The new mission presidents are:
Val R. Christensen, 60, Logan 27th Ward, Logan Utah East Stake; Sunday School and priesthood quorum teacher; former regional representative, stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop and counselor, missionary in the Western Canada Mission; vice president for student services at Utah State University; received bachelor's degree in English and master's degree in secondary school administration from Utah State University, and doctorate in higher education administration from Michigan State University; born in Hooper, Utah, to Leonard and Jennie Lowe Rigby Christensen; married Ruth Ann Wood, five children. She is Relief Society president; former stake Relief Society president's counselor, Lambda Delta Sigma adviser, Relief Society president's counselor and teacher, Primary teacher, data entry missionary; attended BYU and Utah State University; born in Ogden, Utah, to Melvin Grace and Lavora Smith Wood.- Calvin C. Clegg, 56, Monument Park 15th Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake; former stake and district high councilor, bishop and counselor, elders quorum president, Young Men adviser, and missionary in the Argentine Mission; director of corporate security for Huntsman Corp.; received bachelor's degree in political science and Latin American studies from the University of Utah; born in El Paso, Texas, to Heber Milton and Delma Chipman Clegg; married Gayle Muhlestein, five children. She is stake Young Women activities counselor; former Primary president and counselor, Young Women president and counselor, Relief Society president's counselor and Sunday School teacher; received bachelor's degree in history, secondary and elementary education from the University of Utah; born in Glendale, Calif., to Grant Alvey and Lillie Belle Tidwell Muhlestein.
Bartell C. Jensen, 61, North Logan 3rd Ward, North Logan Utah Stake; stake president; former high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader, Sunday School teacher, and missionary in the Finnish Mission; president and chief executive officer of USU Foundation/
Space Dynamics Lab; received bachelor's degree in economics from Utah State University and doctorate in economics and mathematics from Purdue University; born in Richfield, Utah, to Evan Ray and Devona Agnes Cowley Jensen; married Arlene Breinholt, five children. She is Primary achievement day leader; former member of stake Relief Society board, Relief Society president and counselor, Primary teacher and inservice leader, and activities committee chairman; attended Utah State University; born in Venice, Utah, to Sterling and Maurine Cowley Breinholt.
Edwin B. Morrell, 67, Provo 13th Ward, Provo Utah East Stake; sealer in the Provo Temple and family history name extractor; former president of the East European and Austrian Vienna missions, temple worker, stake president's counselor, high councilor, stake Sunday School president, stake Young Men president, bishop, Sunday School teacher, branch president's counselor, and missionary in the British and Czechoslovak missions; BYU faculty member; received bachelor's degree from BYU, master's degree and doctorate from Harvard University, and attended the University of Utah and Moscow (Russia) State University; born in Worland, Wyo., to William Ernest and Margaret Blackhurst Morrell; married Norma Toronto, six children.
