Peter told the Saints of his day, "Ye are a peculiar people. . . . " (1 Pet. 2:9.) What is the meaning of the word peculiar in this verse?

The word peculiar is used in the scriptures as meaning "one's very own, exclusive, or special." The word is not used in the Bible as meaning odd or eccentric.
The Hebrew word segulah is translated as peculiar in several verses. (See Deut. 7:6; 14:2 and 26:18.)
The verse in which Peter declares, "Ye are a peculiar people" (1 Pet. 2:9) "should carry the meaning of the saints' being the Lord's own special people or treasure." The word peculiar is used in a similar manner in Titus 2:14.
