The momentous event of 14-year-old Joseph Smith praying in a grove of trees near his home in the spring of 1820, as portrayed by artist Kenneth Riley, began events leading to the restoration of the gospel.

The Doctrine and Covenants and Church history are the subjects of the Sunday School course of study for 1997.
