And there was also written upon them a new writing, which was plain to be read, which did give us understanding concerning the ways of the Lord; and it was written and changed from time to time, according to the faith and diligence which we gave unto it. And thus we see that by small means the Lord can bring about great things. - 1 Ne. 16:29.
I was brought up in western New York. When I was about 8 years old, my father took me to see the Hill Cumorah Pageant. During the performance I felt ill and a young man helped me. He gave me a book before he left me.Every Saturday as I cleaned my bookshelf I would see the book. As I dusted, I had a feeling this book would become very important to me. In my 20s I began a search for truth in my life.
I worked as a cashier in a department store. I noticed the elders when they came in and they would talk to me. One day they looked hungry so I invited them to come to my home for dinner. After dinner they began to teach me the gospel. When they mentioned the Book of Mormon, I told them that I had one and I knew right where it was. As they taught me, from that first day I knew the Book of Mormon was true, and as I read it felt like a light came from every page. I was baptized a few weeks later.
I am so grateful for the young man who gave me the Book of Mormon so many years ago. It has changed my whole life.
We have had four missionaries in my family. I served a stake mission and my sons have served missions in England and Texas. My husband is currently the ward mission leader.
