Behold, I send you out to reprove the world of all their unrighteous deeds, and to teach them of a judgment which is to come.
And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up. - D&C 84:87-88.
My plans to go on a mission were postponed for a year, due to cancer surgery. Finally, I received my mission call in July 1992 to the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission.
I was the oldest sister missionary in the mission and was still recovering from the surgery. I made a commitment to Heavenly Father that I would do my best to serve an honorable and successful mission if He would help me to maintain my energy and stay healthy.
When I read these verses in the Doctrine and Covenants I felt they were meant for me. I carried a copy of these inspiring words with me at all times. When I was at the point of exhaustion or discouragement, I would read these verses. As I read them I knew that my Heavenly Father was with me, and that His angels were there to bear me up. I received renewed energy and inspiration to continue my mission work and to complete a happy and honorable mission. Reading this scripture several years later still inspires me to keep the Spirit of the Holy Ghost within my heart.
