A spring snowstorm didn't dampen the enthusiasm of those gathering in the Salt Lake Tabernacle for the 167th Annual General Conference. As at least three inches of snow fell Saturday morning, April 5, people, many wrapped in winter coats and scarves, filled the historic building as well as overflow facilities in the Assembly Hall and the Joseph Smith Memorial Building, adjacent to Temple Square.
There was a particular feeling of gratitude for the presence of Elder Neal A. Maxwell of the Quorum of the Twelve, who spoke at the session. He was diagnosed last fall with leukemia and has undergone chemotherapy treatments.
Conducting the session was President Gordon B. Hinckley. Providing music was the Mormon Youth Chorus, with Robert C. Bowden directing and Linda Margetts accompanying. Offering the invocation was Elder Cree-L Kofford of the Seventy; Elder Jay E. Jensen, also of the Seventy, gave the benediction.
