When worthy members of the Church enter military service, priesthood leaders should encourage them to obtain their patriarchal blessing before reporting for active duty, if possible. If circumstances prevent a member in the military from receiving a blessing in his or her home stake, the member can obtain a blessing from a patriarch in the area of the member's temporary duty station. To do this, the member in the military must present a recommend from the bishop of their home ward to the president of the stake in which his or her temporary duty station is located. That stake president will then interview the member in the military for worthiness and sign the recommend if he or she is worthy.
