It was 170 years ago, on Sept. 22, 1827, that a plow-boy prophet received permission to take the plates that had been preserved in the Hill Cumorah for 1,400 years.
In a remarkably short time of about 90 days, this untutored young man translated a record and prepared it for public distribution. Since that day, more than 83 million copies of the Book of Mormon have been distributed in 87 languages.
