New stake presidencies

Two new stakes have been created, in Japan and Massachusetts.

The Asahikawa Japan Stake, which includes the Asahikawa 1st and 2nd, Sapporo Higashi, Shinkotoni and Shinoro wards, and the Iwamizawa, Shibetsu, Takikawa and Wakkanai branches, has been created by Elder L. Lionel Kendrick of the Seventy.The Cambridge Massachusetts Stake, which includes the Arlington, Belmont, Cambridge 1st and 5th, Cambridge University, Lynnfield, Revere 1st (Spanish) and Revere 2nd wards, and the Cambridge 2nd (Spanish), Cambridge 4th (Portuguese), and Lynn (Spanish) branches, has been created by Elder Loren C. Dunn of the Seventy.

Elsewhere, stakes have been reorganized in Brazil and Kiribati, and in Alabama, Illinois, Louisiana and Massachusetts.

ASAHIKAWA JAPAN STAKE: (Sept. 20, 1998) Created from the Sapporo Japan and Sapporo Japan West stakes and the Kushiro Japan District. President - Katsuo Fuji, 53, branch manager of Nissho Propane & Gas; wife, Miyoko Hatazawa Fuji. Counselors - Katsuyuki Iwayama, 44, manager of Kodensha Co.; wife, Naoe Aida Iwayama. Yasuo Takasugi, 55, representative of Takasugi Electric; wife, Eiko Ichijo Takasugi.

CAMBRIDGE MASSACHUSETTS STAKE: (Oct. 18, 1998) Created from the Boston Massachusetts and Springfield Massachusetts stakes. President - Lloyd S Baird, 53, professor at Boston University; wife, Coleen Hansen Baird. Counselors - Steven Charles Wheelwright, 55, senior associate dean and professor at Harvard Business School; wife, Margaret Steele Wheelwright. Lee Roy LaPierre, 46, engineer for General Electric Co.; wife, Dorothy Lilynn Muzzy LaPierre.
