Two months before the hurricane, Rigoberto Portillo lost his wife to an illness and was left alone to care for their 2-year-old daughter.
He was a member of the La Lima Honduras Stake, which took some of the hardest rains of the hurricane.
When the rain grew intense, water filled the area where they lived. Brother Portillo put his young daughter on a mattress that floated, and placed his arm on the mattress to comfort the girl. When they were found two days later, he had been drowned for two days, and the little girl was still clinging to his arm.
She was found to be well and placed with a family that would care for her.
