Living by the scriptures

And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. — 2 Kings 6:16.

Our son was born with severe disabilities, not the least of which was combative acting-out behavior. We have had to struggle all his life to find appropriate settings for him. Despite our efforts, we had to institutionalize him when we could no longer meet his physical needs.

Recently, the closing of the second institution in our state system was announced. Even though it was not without cause, I wondered why they did not correct the existing problems and keep them open for those who are severely disabled.

This morning, as I prepared to go to Church, my heart was heavy. I believed that those who were dedicated to closing institutions were so much more powerful than our tiny minority. I felt helpless and abandoned.

Then, as this scripture was quoted in Sunday School class, I knew our Heavenly Father was answering my prayers and that the hosts of heaven are looking out for all special and vulnerable souls; that all would be well with them. — Jill Henriksen, Huntsville, Ala.
