True to his promise to share his testimony with as many members of the Church throughout the world as long as the Lord would grant him strength to travel, President Gordon B. Hinckley continued his aggressive pace in 1998 by traveling nearly 77,000 miles and meeting with an estimated 372,000 members.
Early in the year, he made an historic trip to Africa, becoming the first president of the Church to visit West Africa. Near the end of the year, he visited areas devastated by Hurricane Mitch in Central America. In between, he visited Mexico, Europe, Canada, and many areas in the United States.
