Helen Kearnes Richards, 98, the widow of Elder Franklin D. Richards who served as a General Authority for 27 years from 1960-1987, died March 11, 1998, in Salt Lake City.
Elder Richards died in 1987 at age 86.Sister Richards graduated from the University of Utah and attended Columbia University in New York City. She taught home economics, organized a statewide PTA and helped build a children's home in eastern Utah. She served with her husband in numerous Church callings, including when he presided over the Northwestern States Mission and the Washington Temple and when he supervised missions in Latin America.

Roden Grant Shumway, 76, husband of Naomi M. Shumway who was general president of the Primary Association from October 1975-April 1980, died March 12 in Bountiful.
He earned degrees from Utah State University, Indiana University, Northwestern University and Stanford University. He was president and chief executive officer of a savings and loan association in Utah and Hawaii, and was executive vice president of two other savings and loan associations. He was a past president of Utah Savings and Loan League. He also worked in banking and as an independent real estate appraiser for Federal Housing and Veterans administrations. He was a member of the executive board of the Great Salt Lake Council of Boy Scouts of America.
