Many Church members cannot read God's word. The reasons for this include economic limitations, social restrictions, cultural barriers, and personal disabilities. The Gospel Literacy effort is an ongoing plan to help individuals learn to read and write so they can better understand the gospel and participate in all aspects of gospel living. As members learn to read the scriptures, they can more fully learn the doctrines of the Church and better teach the gospel, do family history projects, and serve in Church callings. They will also be strengthened in their homes, schools and communities.
