Ted D. Simmons, 67, managing director of the Church Physical Facilities Department, died of cancer Sept. 7, 1998, at his home in Salt Lake City.
A former bishop and stake president's counselor, he was chairman of the board of Zion's Securities Corp.; a former vice chairman of Mutual Benefit Life Insurance Co., of Newark, N.J.; past chairman of the National Advisory Council for BYU and of the advisory committee of WNSR Radio. He also served on the advisory board of Utah State University School of Business. He was past chairman of the Board of United Hospitals Medical Center of New Jersey.As managing director of Church Physical Facilities, he oversaw the operation and maintenance of the buildings at Church headquarters; construction of temples and other special projects, including the new assembly building currently being erected across the street north of Temple Square; real estate acquisition; and architectural and engineering services.
Edwin Boyd Jones, 81, former president of the Chicago Illinois Temple, was killed Sept. 3 in an automobile-pedestrian accident while crossing the street near his home in Kanesville, Utah. He was a former regional representative, temple sealer and patriarch.
A banker, he retired as chief executive officer of Michigan National Corp., and served as a captain in the Army during World War II. He served as president of the Chicago Temple from 1988-91.
LeOra Williams Zabriskie, 71, Orlando Florida Temple matron, died Aug. 26, 1998, in Windermere, Fla.
Before serving as temple matron, Sister Zabriskie served with her husband when he was president of the Florida Ft. Lauderdale and West Indies missions. She also served as ward and stake Relief Society president, Church Office Building hostess and temple worker.
