Mesa Pioneer monument
On Feb. 13, 1988, President Gordon B. Hinckley unveiled a monument at Pioneer Park in Mesa, Ariz., that honors the city's earliest settlers.
The monument, sculpted by Claude Pomeroy, is composed of six life-size bronze figures displayed on a concrete and brick base in the park, located immediately north of the Mesa Arizona Temple block.
Four of the figures depict George W. Sirrine, Charles Crismon, Charles I. Robson and Francis Pomeroy, founders of the city. They stand and kneel in a semi-circle in front of a pioneer mother and child — who represent the families that provided support and encouragement to the settlers. Bronze plaques listing the names of the first pioneers to the area are affixed to the base of the monument.
