Travels of Pres. Hinckley: Relentless schedule

During this year, President Gordon B. Hinckley has relentlessly traveled throughout the world, speaking at 65 events to more than 197,350 Church members in eight countries.

In October 1996 general conference, President Hinckley said that he had determined that for as long as he has the strength to do so, he would get out and meet with the saints — both the youth and the adults. "I do not enjoy travel," he said then. "But I do enjoy looking into the faces and shaking the hands of faithful Latter-day Saints."

He has remained true to that promise to share his testimony with as many members of the Church as possible. Since becoming president of the Church in March 1995, President Hinckley has visited 53 countries, speaking to almost 2.2 million Church members and others.

Following is a brief summary of President Hinckley's 1999 activities. (The numbers to the left on the lists of locations visited correspond with the numbers on the map below and are in chronological order of his visits.)
