Elder Dallin H. Oaks

<code> "To proclaim the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ is a fundamental principle of the Christian faith. . . . President Gordon B. Hinckley has . . . asked for 'an infusion of enthusiasm' for missionary work."</code>

The participation of church members in finding and friendshipping investigators is the best way to spur the work.

"We need three things to fulfill our prophet's challenge: First we need a sincere desire to share the gospel. Second, we need divine assistance. Third we need to know what to do."

To develop the desire, church members must have firm testimonies of their own, coupled with a love for God and all his children. "The intensity of our desire to share the gospel is a great indicator of the extent of our personal conversion."

Promptings about sharing the gospel will come as a result of earnest prayer. "To be effective, our efforts (to gain converts) must be directed by the Lord. . . . We must pray for the Lord's help and directions so we can be instruments in his hands for one who is now ready, one he would have us help today."

Then, "We begin by beginning. . . . Revelation comes most often when we are on the move. . . . We must be sure we act out of love and not in any attempt to gain personal recognition or advantage."

Those who desire to share the gospel must avoid manipulation. "That impression is entirely contrary to the unselfish, sharing spirit of our missionary service."

Church literature may be helpful in generating interest. Inviting potential members to share in church meetings and activities also may open the door to further discussion.
