Members holding the Aaronic and Melchizedek Priesthoods attended the 185th Semiannual General Conference's priesthood session Saturday evening, Oct. 3, 2015.
President Thomas S. Monson presided at the event and spoke about the importance of obedience to God's commandments.
“He who created us and who loves us perfectly knows just what we need and when we need it to obtain the greatest happiness possible,” President Monson said. “But while He gives us laws and commandments, He also allows us to choose whether to accept them or reject them. Our decisions in this regard will determine our destiny.”
Other speakers included President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency; President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, second counselor in the First Presidency; Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; and Elder Randall K. Bennett of the Seventy.
Elder Larry S. Kacher and Brother Stephen G. Owen offered prayers.
Topics of the evening’s sermons included faith in Jesus Christ, being willing to take the necessary steps to return to Heavenly Father, loyalty to God and the power that accompanies faithful priesthood service.
A father and son priesthood choir from Orem, Utah, under the direction of Cory Mendenhall and accompanied by organists Andrew Unsworth and Clay Christiansen, provided music for the session. Among the hymns performed by the choir were “Let Zion in Her Beauty Rise,” “Jesus, the Very Thought of Thee” and “We'll Bring the World His Truth.” The congregation joined in for the hymn “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty.”
