General conference allows a multitude of the Lord’s disciples to gather as one, said President Henry B. Eyring during the Saturday morning session of the Church’s 186th Annual General Conference on April 2.

“You have come to conference to feel inspiration from heaven and to feel closer to our Heavenly Father and to the Lord,” he said.

President Thomas S. Monson presided over the conference. President Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency, was the first speaker of the session.

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf , second counselor in the First Presidency, conducted the session, during which prayers were offered by Sister Linda K. Burton, Relief Society general president, and Elder Arnulfo Valenzuela, a General Authority Seventy.

Music for the session was provided by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, under the direction of Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy, with Richard Elliott and Andrew Unsworth as organists.

During the session, President Eyring promised that general conference will offer “a precious opportunity” to have hearts softened. Seeds of faith will be received and offer nourishment, he said.

“The seed is the word of God, and it will be poured out on all of us who listen, watch, and read the proceedings of this conference. The music, the talks, and the testimonies have been prepared by servants of God who have sought diligently for the Holy Ghost to guide them in their preparation. They have prayed longer and more humbly as the days of the conference have approached.”
