People who convert to a religion and are actively engaged are more likely to donate to charities and participate in community service, a new study says.
The study was performed by Deloitte Access Economics and commissioned by the interreligious think-tank SEIROS — the Study of the Economic Impact of Religion on Society.
Peter Dutton, minister for Home Affairs and SEIROS chairman, said that it was "reassuring, but not surprising" that the report found benefits of religion on society.
Robert Forsyth, former Anglican bishop of South Sydney said the study might help find the missing link between religious practices and their outcomes.
Researchers hope that this is just the beginning of the research and seeing how religion can impact society.
The study was also sponsored the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney, Hillsong Church and the Uniting Church in Australia.
