During a recent visit to South Africa, Brother Douglas D. Holmes, first counselor in the Young Men general presidency, and Brother Devin G. Durrant, first counselor in the Sunday School general presidency, met with members to discuss the upcoming changes in curriculum and youth programs.
Mormon Newsroom Africa Southeast Area provided details of their visit and the topics discussed in trainings with local leaders.
Since the Church's announcement earlier this month regarding the end of its relationship with the Boy Scouts of America program, members have been awaiting further information about the new youth programs that will take the place of scouting and Personal Progress.
Brother Holmes met with local leaders of the Young Men program to counsel and train them in preparation for the upcoming program changes.
Brother Holmes said everything in service to the Young Men could be summed up as "helping young men become converted to the gospel of Jesus Christ." He noted that President Henry B. Eyring has given a mandate to "have the gospel deep rooted in their souls," according to Mormon Newsroom.
Similarly, Brother Durrant told local leaders of changes to the Sunday school curriculum, which will take on an entirely new format beginning in 2019. Changes will include asking students to prepare at home prior to attending their Sunday school classes.
