Elder Renlund talks suicide prevention, reaching out to others in new LDS Church videos

In an effort to help prevent suicide, the Church has recently released a series of videos to help Church members approach those who are considering suicide, Mormon Newsroom reported on July 2.

“We need to reach out with love and understanding,” said Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles in one of the videos. "And you do that in concert with health care professionals, with ecclesiastical leaders, with friends and family support.”

The videos include voices from Church leaders, a woman who found hope after surviving a suicide attempt and another of a father who experienced the suicide of his son.

“We know from all the statistics out there that someone … is having suicidal thoughts in your ward. And as we come together as families, as churches, in a community, we can do better than we’re doing now," Elder Renlund stated in the video. "Heavenly Father is pleased when we reach out and help His children.”

Other videos with Elder Renlund include advice to families who have suffered from the affects of suicide:
