The Lord is happy with any effort we make to draw closer to Him."

At the start of the new year, Church leaders took to social media to share ways to prepare for the new Church curriculum and the Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults . They also spoke about building a stronger relationship with Christ.

In a Dec. 30, 2018, video posted on Twitter, Elder Dale G. Renlund and his wife, Sister Ruth Renlund, invited young adults to ponder the riddle, “What do a dented boat, whack-a-mole and tennis have in common?”

The answer will come on Jan. 13 during the Worldwide Devotional for Young Adults in which they will be speaking.

In the meantime, they also asked young adults to ponder the question, “When is a time in your life when you’ve chosen to doubt not, but be believing?” and share their responses on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

“We’ve both had times in our lives when we had to rely on our faith. We’re excited to hear about your experience,” Sister Renlund said in the video.

President Russell M. Nelson, at the end of the year, reminded the sisters of the Church of the four invitations he had given them during the women’s session of general conference.

In the Dec. 30, 2018, Facebook post, he said, “I hope that each of these invitations has brought you closer to the Savior. If you have struggled with any of them, please don’t be hard on yourself. You can start today. The Lord is happy with any effort we make to draw closer to Him.”

Sister Sharon Eubank of the Relief Society general presidency was looking forward to the upcoming changes to Church services in a Dec. 28, 2018, Facebook post.

“By moving the center of our study from church to the home, we have the chance to spend more time to personally know Jesus Christ,” the post read. “We choose to build our relationship with Him with our time. When we do, we feel Him near us when we have questions or troubles.”

On New Year’s Day, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles shared a photo of him and his wife, Sister Harriet Uchtdorf, wishing all a happy new year in four languages on Instagram.

Many will think about setting goals and making resolutions that can lead to positive changes in the new year, the post read. However, “nothing will change your life this year as significantly as seeking to gather God’s light into your souls and allowing your spirits to be filled with the shining truth of heavenly things.”

In the scriptures, one learns that the Lord gives people objects to help guide His people through life’s challenges. One of these items was the Liahona.

“In our day, we have two physical items given to us that accomplish the same purpose of helping us navigate our path through life — our patriarchal blessings and the Book of Mormon. I encourage you to study the Book of Mormon and your patriarchal blessings,” Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said in a Dec. 30, 2018, Instagram post.

Sister Becky Craven of the Young Women general presidency recalled an experience that occured just days after visiting teaching had been replaced with ministering in the April 2018 general conference. She received a visit from her new ministering sister, Christie.

“I will always remember her cute smile and sweet sentiment as she stood on my front porch: ‘I don't know how to be a ministering sister, but I thought you'd like this plant.’”

The Jan. 3 Facebook post included a photo of a potted plant with a bright yellow paper flower with Sister Craven’s name.

“Although my current calling is with the young women, I continue to be an active member of Relief Society,” the post went on to read. “Regardless of where we are serving as women, we have the privilege of belonging to the greatest women’s organization on earth. It doesn’t matter where we live, or what our circumstances may be, we are united ‘as sisters in Zion’ as we work together in furthering the work of salvation.”

Sister Cristina B. Franco of the Primary general presidency shared her excitement for the new children’s section in the Liahona magazine in a Dec. 30, 2018, Facebook post. The new format will have a pullout section that children can take with them and share with their friends.

“I am very grateful for the Liahona and Friend magazines. I love to read them and to learn from children all over the world,” she said.
