In response to the massacre of members of the LeBaron family about five miles outside of La Mora, Mexico, on Monday, Nov. 4, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints issued a statement on the tragedy:

"We are heartbroken to hear of the tragedy that has touched these families in Mexico," said Eric Hawkins, a Church spokesman. "Though it is our understanding that they are not members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, our love, prayers and sympathies are with them as they mourn and remember their loved ones."

The death toll from this ambush attack rose to nine on Tuesday, Nov. 5, including three mothers and six children. Members of the LeBaron family stated on social media that six others were wounded and two were unharmed.
