Home teachers represent the quorum leaders and the bishop. They should win the friendship and respect of their families. They should show genuine concern and interest for each family member. This feeling can often be enhanced by remembering birthdays and other special events. They should know the names of all family members and become acquainted with their special interests, abilities, employment and challenges.
Home teachers should always work through and consult with the family needs and ways in which they can be most helpful. . . .- Melchizedek Priesthood Handbook, p. 8
