"The Doctrine and Covenants is bulging with information about the second coming of the Savior and things pertaining thereto," wrote Larry E. Dahl in The Capstone of Our Religion - Insights into the Doctrine and Covenants.
Dahl noted at least 40 of the 138 sections of the Doctrine and Covenants allude to the events and conditions attending the Lord's coming, yet no definitive time is given.Dahl wrote: "Not revealing the exact time of the Second Coming is purposeful. (See Matt. 24:42-51.) Not even the "angels in heaven" know. (D&C 49:7.) When the Prophet Joseph Smith prayed "very earnestly to know of the coming of the Son of Man' he was given a vague answer and told: `trouble me no more on this matter.' (D&C 130:14-16.)
"If the angels and the prophet of the Restoration cannot find out the time, it is unlikely that others know," Dahl continued.
"For those who truly love the Lord, the `when' of the Second Coming really does not matter. They are not faithful simply because He may come in judgment any minute; they keep the commandments because they love the truth and want to do what is right. They look forward to His coming, and pray for it, knowing that the Lord will bring a thousand years of peace and righteousness upon the earth when He does come."
