Former mission president called as LDS student group director

The First Presidency has called Rex W. Williams as director of the Latter-day Saints Student Association (LDSSA). He will serve under the auspices of the Priesthood Department and will work closely with the General Authority coordinator, Elder Paul H. Dunn of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

Williams, 61, a high councilor from the Ensign 6th Ward, Salt Lake Ensign Stake, is president of a manufacturer's representative firm. He is married to Rosemary Brandley, and they have five children and 12 grandchildren. He received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Utah.In the Church, he has served as president of the Florida Tampa Mission from 1979-1982 and as a member of the Church's Missionary Advisory Committee and a missionary tract writing committee. He served in the New England States Mission from 1947-1949 and has been a bishop, stake president's counselor and high councilor.
