Making daily 'miracles' happen goal of Maryland young women

Young women and their leaders in the Midland Maryland Stake recently spent a day learning how to make "miracles" happen.

"Make a miracle happen every day in your life or in the life of someone you know" was the theme of a unique day-long service activity here. More than 100 girls and their leaders arrived at the stake center without any idea of what was planned, said stake Young Women Pres. Leslie Speed.During the morning, the young women and their leaders attended seminars, including one on child and spouse abuse.

The young women then put together 100 emergency kits, which will be distributed to abused women and children within the stake's geographical boundaries. The kits included shampoo, conditioner, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and toys - all of which had been donated by local businesses.

In addition, the young women tied 16 quilts that were given to a local service organization. They concluded the activity by marking 80 copies of the Book of Mormon, which were distributed to full-time missionaries in the stake.

"The effort was well worth it and the girls achieved a sense of compassion and concern for those who encounter such unfortunate situations," Sister Speed said.
