New stake presidencies

Two new stakes have been created in South American countries and one in Central America.

Elder Richard G. Scott of the Council of the Twelve officiated at the creation of the Barcelona Venezuela Stake, the sixth stake in the country. The new stake has 4,900 members in the Barcelona, Nueva Barcelona, Boyaca, Puerto la Cruz, Cumana, and Anaco wards.Elder Angel Abrea of the First Quorum of the Seventy officiated at the creation of the Guayaquil Ecuador Central Stake, the ninth stake in Ecuador. The new stake, which has 2,971 members, includes the Norte, Garay, LaTola, El Salado 1st, Boyaca, Garcia Moreno and Letamendi wards. Three existing stakes in Ecuador were also reorganized.

Elder Horacio Tenorio of the Second Quorum of the Seventy officiated at the creation of the Valle De Sula Honduras Stake. The new stake, which is the 6th in the country, includes the Barandillas, Medina, Las Palmas, Montefresco, and Chamelecon wards and the Cofradia, San Antonio and Villa Nueva branches. Two existing stakes in Honduras were also reorganized.

Elsewhere, stakes have been reorganized in Alpine and Ogden, Utah; and Curitaba, Brazil.

OGDEN UTAH EAST STAKE: (June 18, 1989) President - Ralph Carlyle Aardema, 44, high school principal, succeeding D. Jay Wilson; former stake mission president's counselor, bishop and counselor, and Young Men president, married Sheila Palmer. Counselors - Sidney Craig Campbell, 46, associate professor at Weber State College, former high councilor, bishop's counselor, Sunday School president's counselor, and Young Men president, married Kari Gundersen; Quinn Burnett Moyes, 29, seminary teacher, former bishop's counselor and Young Men president, married Jodi Stromberg.
