The first conference in Western Africa's Ivory Coast District was held March 10-11. Approximately 200 people attended from two branches located in Abidjan, the capital city, and from one small branch in Boauke, the next largest city four hours up country. At the conference, the Plateau Dokui Branch was created, making four fully functioning branches in the district. A new facility was rented recently in which to house district offices and the Plateau Dokui Branch, which had an attendance of 85 by its second meeting.
The Church has about 350 members in Ivory Coast. With two missionary couples serving, the baptism rate is 30-35 per month. At a district priesthood meeting held last in December, nine brethren were advanced to the Melchizedek Priesthood; seven more were advanced at the recent conference, bringing to 35 the number now holding the Melchizedek Priesthood in the district.
