Four missionaries honored for 'clean blood donations'

The donor center staff of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia recently honored four missionaries in the Pennsylvania Philadelphia Mission for donating blood liberally to help children who are seriously ill with life-threatening cancers and other diseases or who must undergo surgery.

The department responsible for collecting blood platelets - a non-nucleated disk that helps in blood clotting - hosted a buffet dinner Sept. 19 to honor the missionaries for their clean, healthy donations. Many people who donate blood and plasma are not qualified to donate platelets and many families are unable to provide donors for family members who are sick, said hospital donor recruiter Julia Harkins.

The missionaries honored at the dinner were Elder Trevor Hall, Elder Morgan Mackey, Elder Derek MacFarland and Elder Anthony Johnny.
