Nearly 5 million people passed through the gates at Temple Square during 1990.
The official figure of 4,788,278 visitors is the highest in the history of the Square, reported Ralph O. Bradley, Temple Square director. "This count surpasses 1989 totals by more than 10 percent," he said.Temple Square is the most visited attraction in Utah and ranks very high among tourist attractions throughout the country.
The number of visitors during December 1990, during which Christmas light displays and daily concerts and recitals are featured, was up 11,252 over the previous December. December 1990 visitors totaled 595,768.
Motor coach tours swelled the numbers, as 2,340 such tours brought thousands from countries previously closed to travel outside their own boundaries.
Tabernacle Choir broadcasts attracted 192,178, compared to 174,622 in 1989.
