Four new members of the Sunday School general board have been called by the First Presidency. They are Neil J. Flinders, Pleasant Grove, Utah; Robert H. Garff, Bountiful, Utah; Joyce MacCabe, Sandy, Utah; and Barnard Stewart Silver, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Neil J. Flinders, Manila 3rd Ward, Pleasant Grove Utah Manila Stake; professor in the College of Education at BYU, he has authored several texts on teaching and was recently cited by the College of Education for "Excellence in Teaching"; has served as a high councilor, stake Sunday School president and bishop; married the former Joan Robertson.Robert H. Garff, North Canyon 4th Ward, Bountiful Utah North Canyon Stake; general manager of automotive firm; former Utah state legislator, where he was Speaker of the House, and was a past chairman of the Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce; has served as mission president, stake president, high councilor and bishop; married the former Katharine Bagley.
Joyce K. MacCabe, Westview Ward, Sandy Utah Granite Stake; she has taught many years in elementary education and has also taught hearing impaired pre-school children and English students at Kanto Gauquin University in Japan; she has served as stake Relief Society president, stake Young Women president, and as a teacher in Sunday School, Primary and Relief Society; served with husband, Van L. MacCabe, as he presided over the Utah Salt Lake City South Mission.
Barnard Stewart Silver, Holladay 24th Ward, Salt Lake Holladay North Stake; a mechanical engineer, specializing in energy and food processing industries, he was knighted by the West African nation of Ivory Coast for his work in starting the sugar cane industry there in the mid-1970s; has served as counselor in a stake presidency, high councilor, bishop's counselor, Sunday School president and Sunday School and seminary teacher; married the former Cherry Bushman.
