Family of year\ SANTA ANA, CALIF.\ The Renan and Evy Disner family has been selected as the 1992 California Hispanic American Family of the Year. The Disners and their four children were honored recently, along with five other families from throughout the nation, and met with President George Bush. Brother Disner is president of the Santa Ana California South Stake. Sister Disner is a certified bilingual teacher and volunteers as a translator for school and PTA meetings.\ Another LDS family, the Alvaro and Marta Cristales family of the South Gate 1st Ward, Downey California Stake, was among the finalists for the 1992 California Hispanic American Family of the Year award. The award is presented each year by the Hispanic American Family of the Year Foundation. Finalists are selected on the basis of family unity, teamwork, cultural pride and community service.
Takes first\ SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH\ Nate Stander, a member of the Millcreek 3rd Ward, Salt Lake Millcreek Stake, recently took first place in the gymnastics competition of the Utah Summer Games. He won six gold medals and one silver medal.
Elected president\ SOUTHERN PINES, N.C.\ Dr. Elizabeth Lyerly, a veterinarian, was recently elected president of the North Carolina Veterinary Association by its 1,100 members. She is serving as seminary teacher and as Sunday School teacher for 16- and 17-year-olds in the Pinehurst Ward, Fayetteville North Carolina Stake.
Wins title\ NAPERVILLE, ILL.\ Seth Malley, 14, recently won the Illinois State wrestling title for the 145-pound weight class in the 6th-8th grade state competition. Seth maintains an A average and attends early morning seminary. He is also an accomplished pianist. Seth is a member of the Naperville 2nd Ward, Naperville Illinois Stake.
Young businessman\ SANDY, UTAH\ Ryan Morrison, a member of the Hillcrest 7th Ward, Sandy Utah Hillcrest Stake, has been awarded first place in the Young Business Owner category of the National Federation of Independent Business Foundation's National Awards Program. In another competition, Ryan was awarded first place in the annual Utah Governor's Young Entrepreneur Search. Ryan, a high school senior, is the president of Salt Lake Security and installs commercial and residential security systems.

GASTON, ORE.\ Alan Bell, a member of the Forest Grove 1st Ward, Hillsboro Oregon Stake, was selected to play on the Shriner's All Star Football team in Oregon. Two teams of 30 players each were chosen from the eastern and western parts of Oregon from the 1-A, 2-A and 3-A high school football leagues.
DARE president\ MESA, ARIZ.
Keith Dixon, a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) officer, is president of the Arizona DARE officers association. As a member of the Southwest Regional Training Center, he has trained officers from 12 other states and American Samoa as part of his work. As a DARE officer, he teaches life skills to elementary-age students. Brother Dixon is a member of the Apache Junction 4th Ward, Apache Junction Arizona Stake.

Kathryn Ann Wadley, 17, will represent Idaho in the Miss Teen national pageant this fall. She is a member of the Mountain Home 4th Ward, Mountain Home Idaho Stake. Contestants will be judged for scholastic achievement, volunteer service, talent, personal interview and formal presentation.
Council president\ NORWELL, MASS.
Donald P. Mangum, Young Men president of the Hingham Massachusetts Stake, was recently elected president of the Old Colony Council of Boy Scouts of America. The council serves more than 12,000 youth and adult volunteer leaders in 41 communities south of Boston.
Receives third\ REDDING, CALIF.\ Shirley Anderson received third place in the National Kitchen & Bath Association competition for kitchen and bath design. Her work was selected from more than 350 entries submitted by professional kitchen and bath designers from across the country. She is a member of the Redding 4th Ward, Redding California Stake.
Awarded medal\ KENT, ENGLAND\ Robert J. Bruce, a police constable with the Kent Constabulary, was awarded the British Empire Medal by Queen Elizabeth II of England for services to the community. He was presented the award by the Lord-Lieutenant of Kent, Robin Leigh-Pemberton, who is the governor of the Bank of England. Brother Bruce is a member of the Dover Ward, Maidstone England Stake. He was honored for his work in raising funds for charities.

Hayden Corn, a member of the Tucson University 4th Ward, Tucson Arizona East Stake, recently received an Arizona State Independence Achievement Award from the Governor's Council on Developmental Disabilities. Disabled from birth with cerebral palsy, he communicates through an electronic alphabet device.
Medal winner\ DARTMOUTH, NOVA SCOTIA
Greta Stay, Young Women president in the Dartmouth Ward, Dartmouth Nova Scotia Stake, recently competed in the Canadian Masters competition where she won three gold medals and two bronze medals in kayaking and canoeing. She won the gold in the women's one-, two- and four-person kayak race and the bronze in the mixed male and female kayak race and the mixed war canoe race.
Celebrates 102nd\ SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH
Cleo Cranney Hinckley celebrated her 102nd birthday on Oct. 13 with her family and friends. A member of the Fairmont Ward, Salt Lake Granite Stake, Sister Hinckley was born in 1890 in Logan, Utah, the sixth child of Willard Duane and Hattie Woolf Cranney. She married Parnell Hinckley in 1919 in the Salt Lake Temple. He died in 1984 at age 95. She is the mother of six children, and has 39 grandchildren and 96 great-grandchildren. Sister Hinckley served a mission in Los Angeles in 1915, being one of the first lady missionaries.
All-American\ LAWRENCEVILLE, GA.
Lora Brinkerhoff, a member of the Lawrenceville 1st Ward, Sugar Hill Georgia Stake, has been selected as a member of the National Cheerleaders Association All-American Team. She will perform at the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii, in December. Lora is a senior and varsity cheerleader at Brookwood High School, Laurel class president and a gymnastics instructor.
