'New Testament more influential over time than any other book'

The New Testament has influenced more people for good over a longer period of time than any other book. Only the Old Testament would compare as far as time is concerned, but it does not compare as far as the number of people impacted.

The New Testament testifies of the most important truths on this earth, which are:- God lives and is our Heavenly Father.

  • Jesus Christ is God's Divine Son, the Firstborn Son of God in the spirit and the Only Begotten Son of God in the flesh.

The New Testament provides more information than any book on the birth, life, teachings, mission, and atonement, including His death and resurrection, of Jesus Christ.

The proof of the divinity of Jesus Christ is His resurrection. If He had power to provide the resurrection, He must possess the power of God. The New Testament has the best proofs of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. There were at least nine separate, distinct appearances after His resurrection to the following: to Mary Magdalene, to the other women, to Peter, to the two disciples on the way to Emmaus, to the 10 apostles in the closed room, to the 11 apostles a week later, to selected apostles on the shore of the Sea of Galilee, to 500 people on a mountain side, and to the apostles at the time of His ascension.

The importance of the New Testament is made clear by other testaments of Jesus Christ, such as the Book of Mormon. For example, in Mormon 7:8-9: "Therefore repent, and be baptized in the name of Jesus, and lay hold upon the gospel of Christ, which shall be set before you, not only in this record but also in the record which shall come unto the Gentiles from the Jews, which record shall come from the Gentiles unto you. For behold, this is written for the intent that ye may believe that; and if ye believe that ye will believe this also. . . ."

If you believe in the Book of Mormon, you must believe in the New Testament. In addition, according to 3 Ne. 15:16-24; 16:1-3; 17:4, the record of the Lost Tribes will also testify of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and thus of His divinity.

Elder Bruce R. McConkie explained: "Now, let us speak particularly of those wonderous books that we call the four gospels. They contain hidden and unknown treasures. We haven't caught the vision and come to realize what we can get out of the gospels. Would it surprise you if I suggested that there is more knowledge in the four gospels, more revealed truth relative to the nature and kind of being that God our Father is, than in all the rest of holy writ combined?" Ensign, April 1975, p. 70.)

A resolution that all of us could agree to is that the New Testament is one of the five most important books available in the world today. Wouldn't that truth alone be sufficient reason for all of us to study anew the truths of the New Testament.
