Ten new directors of Church visitors centers have been called by the First Presidency. The new directors and their wives are currently being trained at the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, and will begin their two-year terms of service this month after completing their training.
The new directors and their wives are:Cove Fort Visitors Center: Sherman Bitner Hinckley, 83, former high councilor, high priests group leader, and a missionary with his wife, Eileen Ellis Hinckley, at the New Zealand Visitors Center, self-employed until his retirement. He and his wife are members of the Monument Park 9th Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake.
Hawaii Visitors Center: Richard Keith Grover, 64, who, at the time of his call, was serving a full-time mission with his wife, Patricia Rae Pace Grover, in Hawaii; former high councilor, stake mission president, bishop and bishop's counselor, and branch president. He and his wife are members of Edgemont 5th Ward, Provo Utah Edgemont South Stake.
Independence Visitors Center: Robert Hal Parker, 69, counselor in a stake mission presidency, is a former president of the South Carolina Columbia Mission, stake finance chairman for the Nevada Las Vegas Temple, and counselor to three mission presidents. He is a retired orthodontist and now operates several ranches. He and his wife, Colleen Anderson Parker, are members of the Las Vegas 6th Ward, Las Vegas Nevada Stake.
Joseph Smith Memorial Visitors Center: Reed V. Harding, 66, served as a missionary with his wife, Norma Joyce Bateman Harding, in the Canada Vancouver and New Zealand Wellington missions, and is a former high councilor, bishop, high priests group leader and activities committee chairman. He and his wife are members of the Woodland Hills Ward, Bountiful Utah Central Stake.
Kirtland Visitors Center: Reed Miller Merrill, 64, and his wife, Joan Whittle Merrill, are former missionaries in the Australia Sydney North Mission. He has served as stake president, high councilor, bishop, bishop's counselor and Explorer adviser. He is a retired orthodontist. He and his wife are members of the River Heights 1st Ward, Providence Utah Stake.
Nauvoo Visitors Center: Mark George Ricks, 70, is a former regional representative, stake president, bishop and bishop's counselor; served as an Idaho State senator for the past 15 years. He and his wife, Evelyn Tonks Ricks, are members of the Rexburg 19th Ward, Rexburg Idaho Stake.
St. George Temple Visitors Center: Robert Leatham Simpson, 79, General Authority Emeritus who served as a General Authority for 28 years, former president of the Los Angeles Temple, president of the New Zealand Mission, high councilor and bishop's counselor. He is a former chief accountant for Pacific Telephone Co. Elder Simpson and his wife, Jelaire Kathryn Chandler Simpson, are members of the Green Valley 2nd Ward, St. George Utah Green Valley Stake.
Salt Lake Temple Square Visitors Center: Robert Charles Witt, 67, is a former president of the Philippines Manila, Michigan Dearborn, and the California Santa Rosa missions, a district president at the Provo Missionary Training Center, temple ordinance worker and an active Scouter. He is retired director of Employee Development for Dow Chemical Co. He and his wife, Marilyn Ruth Gardner Witt, are members of the Suncrest 3rd Ward, Orem Utah Suncrest Stake.
San Diego Mormon Battalion Visitors Center: Clayton James Kearl, 73, a high councilor, has served as a stake president's counselor, bishop and bishop's counselor, high priests group leader and Sunday School president. He was owner and operator of Kearl's Carpet Co. for 30 years. He and his wife, Betty Loraine Ford Kearl, are members of the Belvedere Ward, Salt Lake Wells Stake.
Washington Temple Visitors Center: Don L. Christensen, 67, is a former president of the Denmark Copenhagen Mission, regional representative, district president, bishop, and branch president, and stake and ward Young Men superintendent. He is a retired investor. He and his wife, Marva Sorenson Christensen, are members of the Mueller Park 5th Ward, Bountiful Utah Mueller Park Stake.
