The 17th annual Workshop on Church Music drew hundreds of musicians and other interested persons from various parts of the Church to the BYU campus Aug. 8-11.
Sponsored by the BYU Music Department, the event was an opportunity to share ideas and receive instruction in all facets of Church music. The goal was to enhance general music skills rather than give training in specific Church callings, which training is provided by local priesthood-directed ward and stake training programs.Choral and instrumental music, voice, historical perspectives, music administration, music for children and the home, organ, theory and composition were among the topics covered.
Some of the classes were summarized in the last issue of the Church News; others are reported on this page. These are only a few of the many offerings at the workshop, some of which are technical in nature and others more general in appeal.
