Living by the scriptures

And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed,

Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.

And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground. - Luke 22:41-44.

Being in a hurry to find a suitable place to settle after a quick change in my husband's employment, we paid an exorbitant deposit for a rental home and moved into the home unfinished, trusting that things would be done as our landlord had promised.

The landlord immediately became difficult to reach. We went through a frustrating year as we tried to deal with a man whom we felt was being dishonest and untrustworthy with us.

We gratefully found a home to buy and moved out, leaving the rental home as clean and beautiful as we could, hoping to receive our deposit back in full. Several months passed with no word from our previous landlord and once again his telephone number had been changed.

I, by this time, was harboring much animosity for this man. I had never felt so much resentment for anyone before. I prayed that the Lord would help release me from these horrible feelings. That night as I was studying my scriptures, I read this passage. I then realized that Jesus Christ suffered great agony for our landlord just as he did for me. Our Savior's loving sacrifice was extended to everyone. The spirit gave me understanding and peace, and my heart was softened. I was able to forgive, forget, and move on with a greater appreciation for the atonement.
