Baptism a necessary ordinance

The Lamanite people converted through the teaching of Ammon received the same gospel ordinances as did those who were "pricked in their heart" on the day of Pentecost.

"Men and brethren, what shall we do?" these Biblical people asked. "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." (Acts 2:27-28.)Speaking of the cleansing effects of the Atonement, Elder Harold B. Lee, then of the Quorum of the Twelve, said during the April 1961 general conference: "Baptism of water and of the Spirit by those having authority are the necessary ordinances for this cleansing, for as the Lord told Adam, ` . . . by the water ye keep the commandment, by the Spirit are ye justified, and by the blood are ye sanctified.' " (Moses 6:60.)
