To extend educational opportunities to more Church members, the Church Educational System and BYU will broadcast portions of Campus Education Week throughout the United States and Canada on Aug. 20-23.
The pilot program will broadcast 12 hours of instruction on topics, such as how to study the scriptures and how to build values, over the Church satellite system to local stake centers. The broadcast will also be shown on KBYU. (See box below for times and topics for both KBYU and the satellite broadcast.)Richard Eddy, BYU dean of Continuing Education, said he hopes that because of the program, Church members who can't take a vacation or travel to BYU will be able to enjoy Campus Education Week.
"We are mainly anxious to provide it close to home and save them the expense and time of driving to Provo, Utah," he said. "It will bring the Church Educational System and BYU into local stake centers and provide Church members with the opportunity to learn and increase their understanding of the gospel."
During BYU Campus Education Week, which begun in 1922, more than 35,000 people are expected to attend some of 1,000 classes on education, religion, marriage, family relations, health, history, genealogy, science, youth interests and other topics.
