Elder Asay given emeritus status

Elder Carlos E. Asay, who served twice as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy for 13 years, was granted emeritus General Authority status in conference Oct. 5. He was released from the presidency Aug. 15. Elder Earl C. Tingey, who was called to the Presidency of the Seventy, effective Aug. 15, was sustained in his calling at the conference.

Elder Asay, 70, currently serves as president of the Salt Lake Temple. A career educator, Elder Asay was called to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1976. He is a former mission president and member of the Sunday School General Board.Elder Tingey, 62, recently served as president of the Utah South Area. A corporate attorney before his calling to the First Quorum of the Seventy in 1991, Elder Tingey has served as a bishop, mission president and regional representative.
