J. Earl Lewis, 97, president of the Canadian Mission from 1955-1959, died at his home in Provo, Utah, on Oct. 7, 1996. He spent his life serving his community, Church and family.
- Golden "Goldie" A. Buchmiller, 74, former staff writer for the Church News, died Oct. 9, 1996, in Salt Lake City. Retired in 1984 after 33 years at the Deseret News, which publishes the Church News, he was recipient of the Mark E. Petersen Special Merit in Journalism award. He served with wife, Carol, in the Alabama Birmingham Mission in 1988-1989.- Ray L. Jones, 79, a pioneer of the early morning seminary program in southern California, died Oct. 10, 1996, in Northridge, Calif. He received a doctorate in education administration from the University of California and later served as director for the Center for Deafness at California State University Northridge. There he started numerous programs to help those with hearing and visual impairments.
