Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin of the Quorum of the Twelve spoke of the growth of the Church in India during a fireside here on Jan. 23. It is believed that Elder Wirthlin is the first apostle to visit the city.

Elder Wirthlin exhorted the Saints to live righteously. He was accompanied to Hyderabad by his wife, Elisa; Asia Area president, Elder John H. Groberg and his wife, Jean; India Bangalore Mission Pres. Neil C. Twitchell and his wife, Wanda; and Pres. Twitchell's counselor, Ebenezer Solomon.

In closing his remarks during the fireside, Elder Wirthlin bestowed his blessing of health and welfare on the members and their families.

A new site for a chapel in Hyderabad has been procured and translation of the Book of Mormon into several native languages is underway.

Bangalore District Pres. Raju Veerabathula, his family and missionary elders greeted the visitors at the airport.

Speaking to the 275 members who attended the fireside, Sister Wirthlin shared her acquaintance with the past presidents of the Church and spoke of following the teachings of President Gordon B. Hinckley.

Elder and Sister Groberg encouraged the Hyderabad Saints to keep the commandments of God and to strengthen the Church in Hyderabad.

Pres. Veerbathula conducted the meeting and spoke of the growth in Hyderabad from one branch to four branches. He quoted Elder Wirthlin's reference to the ancient prophecy of Daniel that the gospel shall go forth unto the ends of the earth "as the stone cut out of the mountain without hands" (Dan. 2:45) shall roll forth until it has filled the whole earth.

After the fireside, the visiting authorities remained to shake hands with the members and thanked them for their wonderful spirit and large attendance.
