President Brigham Young was welcomed into Brigham City, Utah, by a fanfare of flags, banners and an entourage that included a military band, led by the city marshal and often city officials. Dirt roads leading into town had been improved by removing stones, filling gullies and repairing bridges. A party of men mounted on horses and dressed in gray uniforms greeted the president as he approached.
