New mission presidents

Eight new mission presidents have been called by the First Presidency. The mission presidents and their wives will begin their service about July 1. Their assignments will be announced later. Here are their names and biographical information:

Robyn and Gene R. Chidester

Gene R. Chidester, 51, Eaglewood Ward, North Salt Lake Utah Stake; counselor in stake presidency; former high priests group leader, branch president, stake high councilor, bishop, and missionary in Argentina South Mission; president of Eunice International; received bachelor's degree in accounting from BYU; born in Murray, Utah, to Max B. and Clista Zelda Byington Chidester; married to Robyn LaVonne Johnson Chidester; five children. She is a counselor in stake Relief Society presidency; former Young Women adviser, nursery leader, Relief Society teacher and member of stake Young Women presidency; studied business at Lin Benton Community College, Oregon State University and BYU; born in Long Beach, Calif., to Norman Wallace and Claire LaVonne Waugaman Johnson.

Judy and John D. Claybaugh

Jonn Dale Claybaugh, 45, Orchard View Ward, Fresno California Stake; stake director of missionary training; former stake president's counselor, bishop and counselor, high councilor, ward Young Men president, early-morning seminary teacher; employed as Institute of Religion director; receive master's degree in education from BYU; bachelor's degree in Spanish from California State University at San Bernardino and associate degree in business from El Camino College in Torrance, Calif.; born in Fullerton, Calif., to Donn Robert and Jeanne Cawley Claybaugh; married to Judy Garlock Claybaugh; six children. She is second counselor in ward Young Women presidency; former ward Young Women president, stake girl's camp leader, Relief Society compassionate service leader, stake Primary president, counselor in ward Relief Society and Primary counselor and teacher; attended El Camino College in Torrance, Calif.; born in Los Angeles, Calif., to Jerry Craig and Marilyn Haycock Garlock.

Bryon P. and Shirley Hughes

Bryon Preston Hughes, 65, Roy 14th Ward, Roy Utah West Stake; stake public affairs director; former stake president and counselor, bishop and counselor, priests adviser, and high councilor; former public school teacher; received master's and bachelor's degrees in education from University of Utah; born in Centerville, Utah, to Marjorie Springer and Hugh Preston Hughes; married to Shirley Dale Lamar Hughes; six children. She is a Relief Society teacher and ward organist; former counselor in a ward Relief Society presidency; former Laurel adviser, stake Young Women board member, stake Primary board member, stake Sunday School board member, and ward Young Women president and counselor; public school teacher; received bachelor's degree from Weber State College and attended BYU; born in Ingomar, Miss., to Guildy Roy and Mildred Virginia Robbins Lamar.

Lucinda and Robert C. Hyde

Robert Clyde Hyde, 47, Arlington Hills Ward, Salt Lake Emigration Stake; second counselor in stake presidency; former bishop and counselor, Scoutmaster, ward Young Men president and counselor, elders quorum president, and missionary in Scotland Edinburgh Mission; attorney; received juris doctorate at BYU and bachelor's degree in accounting from BYU; born in Salt Lake City to John Taylor and Mary Clyde Hyde; married to Lucinda Ellen Lund Hyde; six children. She is a young adult adviser; former Sunday School teacher, counselor in stake Young Women presidency, Relief Society teacher, counselor in ward Primary presidency, ward Young Women adviser and Primary teacher; attended BYU; born in San Jose, Calif., to Howard Lynn and Gwendolyn Cameron Lund.

Jennie and James B. Martino

James Boyd Martino, 48, Denton 1st Ward, Denton Texas Stake; stake president; former bishop, seminary teacher, high councilor, stake Young Men president, stake executive secretary and missionary in Guatemala-El Salvador Mission; president and chief executive officer of Russell-Newman Inc.; received bachelor's degree in business from BYU; born in Denton, Texas, to Frank Nilson and Betty Jean Newman Martino; married to Jennie Marie Barron Martino; five children. She is a stake missionary; former counselor in ward Relief Society presidency, ward Young Women president, counselor in ward Primary presidency, ward Relief Society president and ward Primary president; received bachelor's degree in psychology from BYU; born in Denton, Texas, to Steven A. and Vanona Faye Sargent Barron.

Paula and Mark J. Rowe

Mark J. Rowe, 56, Lakeview 8th Ward, Orem Utah Lakeview Stake; university liaison with all 21 BYU stakes; former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop's counselor and missionary in Southern Australian Mission; associate dean of biology and agriculture at BYU; received doctorate in biochemistry from BYU and bachelor's degree in chemistry from BYU; did post-doctorate research in molecular biology at Stanford University; born in Oakland, Calif., to DeLos Allen and Mary Alice Pratt Rowe; married to Paula Joyce Taylor Rowe; five children. She is a stake Relief Society president; former counselor in ward Relief Society presidency, Sunday School teacher, stake Young Women president, ward Relief Society president and ward Young Women president; studied family science at BYU; born in Provo, Utah, to Paul Hector and Veda Alene Kofford Taylor.

Richard G. and Laura Whitehead

Richard Grant Whitehead, 58, St. George 3rd Ward, St. George Utah West Stake; counselor in stake presidency; former high councilor, bishop, stake missionary, elders quorum president, Young Men president, Sunday School gospel doctrine teacher, and missionary in British Mission; executive director of institutional advancement at Dixie College in St. George, dentist; received doctor of dental surgery degree at Creighton University, bachelor's degree in biological science at BYU, associate degree at Dixie College; born in St. George, Utah, to Grant Church and Edith Sullivan Whitehead; married to Launa Tucker Whitehead; six children. She is a Sunday School gospel doctrine teacher; former ward choir director, Primary president, ward and choir organist, counselor in stake Relief Society presidency and stake Laurel leader; instructor of music at Dixie College and instructor of flute at Southern Utah University; received master of music degree from University of Nevada at Las Vegas, bachelor's degree in music from Southern Utah University and associate degree in music from Dixie College; born in Morgan, Utah, to Doyle William and Catherine Whitear Tucker.

G. Farrell and Dortha Young

G. Farrell Young, 60, Rexburg 16th Ward, Rexburg Idaho East Stake; stake president; former ward Young Men president, stake president, bishop and counselor, and missionary in the Northern Mexican Mission; dentist; received bachelor's degree in zoology from BYU and dentistry degree from University of Washington; born in Salt Lake City, Utah, to C. Bruce and Dora Dean Young; married to Dortha Rae Pratt Young; six children. She is a ward Relief Society president; former Relief Society education counselor and compassionate service leader, Laurel adviser, Primary teacher and missionary in the Northern Mexican Mission; studied business at Colegio Palmore and attended BYU; born in Pecos, Texas, to Harold Wilcken and Anna Hendrickson Pratt.
