Conference proceeds in face of storm

ZVENIGOROD, Russia — More than 200 young single adults participated in a Church conference here May 12-14.

Members from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Samara, Sarator, Volgograd, Rostov, Zelenograd, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, Zelenograd and Podolsk in Russia attended the conference, titled "Being One — Principle of Unity." Young adults from Belarus and Armenia were also in attendance.

Despite inclement weather, including snow, rain and high winds, many young adults participated in an outdoor service project, cleaning the city. It was during this activity that they were able to get to know one another while serving together, said Nina Yurieva, a member of the conference organizing committee.

The conference dance was canceled after trees downed by high winds during the storm caused a power failure. Young adults, however, were still able to participate in a testimony meeting and sing songs to a guitar.

"Troubles only brought blessings and the theme and goal of the conference was achieved in a strange but miraculous way," said Ivan Makarov, who participated in the conference.
